About the Beach
What is Praia do Norte Beach?
It's an Oceanic Beach in the northern hemisphere bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, located on the coast of Portugal - Iberian Peninsula - in the municipality of Nazaré.
Praia do Norte Beach discloses a very lengthy sand with about 1,5 Km.
Here, the legendary rough sea attracts surf enthusiasts from all over the world.
It was on this shoreline that Benjamin Sanchis tamed the biggest ever surfed wave in the world with 33 meters and claimed the Guiness World Record. This colossal water wall was a courtesy of the Canhão da Nazaré1.
The giant waves of Nazaré became worldly known after Garret McNamara managed to surf in 2011 a wave with 23,77 meters height, setting the world record at the time.
Further south, the beach is bounded by the Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo2 which was built in the seventeenth-century and holds the iconic Farol da Nazaré3, right in front of Pedra do Guilhim4.
Access is done by Estrada da Praia do Norte5, passing beside the Pinhal da Casa de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré6 and a water fun park called Norpark - Diversões Aquáticas - Nazaré.
