Viewpoint of Nossa Senhora da Porciúncula

The Viewpoint of Nossa Senhora da Porciúncula, so called as it’s located in Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Porciúncula’s yard¹ – also known as Igreja Paroquial de Santa Engrácia²– doesn’t seem to have been built for a viewpoint’s purpose, however, happy days, as it’s standing in a somewhat highland offering us a beautiful view over the Rio Tejo³.

From Rua de Santa Apolónia⁴, we make our way up through the Calçada dos Barbadinhos⁵, and coming closer to the church we already notice the viewpoint’s grating. The access gate is not always open. The churchyard is huge and there is a cruise right on the spot of the viewpoint.

Its elevation doesn’t allow us to see more than the Rio Tejo³ and some of the closer rooftops near the riverside area of São Vicente de Fora.
