Description
From the construction of a public garden initially built on a slightly higher plane than the structures around it, the Viewpoint of Jardim do Botto Machado was born.
The area is extremely busy by the hustle and bustle of Feira da Ladra1 – designated are for street vendors that sell a bit of everything – and by the historical monuments built in the proximity of the viewpoint, like the Panteão Nacional2 and Igreja de São Vicente de Fora3.
Geographically speaking, we’re right in Campo de Santa Clara4, Colina de São Vicente de Fora – town with the same name.
This scenery is disturbed by the viewpoint’s grading, in addition to the proximity to other similar height buildings. Taking this into account, it’s far from being amongst the best viewpoints of Lisbon.
Looking at the bright side and seeking a place for pleasure and relaxation, it’s much preferable to enjoy the Kiosk’s terrace under the spring trees in the garden.
Nonetheless, we can still sight the Tejo5 up to the riverside bank of Montijo and, immediately to our right, the monumental building of Panteão Nacional2.
