Description
The National Museum of Theatre and Dance (in portuguese, Museu Nacional do Teatro e da Dança) is housed in the Palácio do Monteiro-Mor and opened on the . Adjacent to the building there is a botanical garden with 11 hectares that brings a gentle scent of freshness to the museum and marks with green tones the surrounding land in the middle of Lisboa.
It was the year when after a theatrical exhibition entitled Companhia Rosas & Brasão (1880-1898), began to be raised the pieces that would constitute the museum's collection. It is emphasized that assets gathered were nearly all coming from praiseworthy donations that include stage props, models, paper theaters and a precious group of 120.000 photographs that faithfully document the history of the show in Portugal.
Currently, the museum is proud to exhibit a collection with about 250.000 pieces. Exist in its facilities a library that counts with 35.000 books related with the show business and an auditorium with capacity for 80 people equipped with all the technological logistic necessary to the performance of theater plays or dance shows.
