Description
The Museum of the Scientific and Cultural Centre of Macau (in portuguese, Museu do Centro Científico e Cultural de Macau ) is part of the Centre with which shares a good part of its name. Founded in , the center and the museum are under the supervision of the Ministério da Educação e da Ciência1.
The Portuguese presence in the orient was the motto to begin gathering a collection that would form a cultural bridge between the Chinese and Portuguese people. This museum space is the only one allusive to the Macanese culture outside of the territory of the Popular Republic of China. Its collection possesses about 4.000 art works.
In the permanent exhibition of the museum, there are two thematic centers named Coleção de Arte Chinesa2 and Condição Histórico-Cultural de Macau nos Séculos XVI e XVII3.
In the collection Chinese art exist numerous pieces from the collection bought to the collector António Sapage, a Macanese citizen. Among them, are on display terracotta, bronzes, ivories, textiles and porcelains.
In the historical-cultural center, are addressed the life in Macau and the relations between Portugal and China during the two centuries mentioned above, through models of ships, books, maps and images.
