The Modern Art Center José de Azeredo Perdigão was created in and called so in honor of the first President of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. This man, profession lawyer, had a history of life inseparable from the Fundação Gulbenkian by being its leader for 37 years, task that played on an exclusive basis, having left the law.

The Modern Art Center was born with the firm purpose of divulging to the world an art collection that aims chronologically the 20th and 21st centuries. With about 9.000 pieces, the collection counts with articles of reputable Portuguese and foreign artists, namely, a group of British artistic pieces that were gathered already after the death of the collector Calouste Gulbenkian.
At the center are quite privileged the temporary exhibitions, in constant turnover, and that bring renewed and exciting news about what is done in the art world nowadays. To concretize these artistic offers, the center is gifted with three rooms connected between themselves and another one with a polyvalent utility according to the necessity of holding events.
