Viewpoint of Monte Agudo

Located in a wooded area behind the High School Luisa de Gusmão, passing through Rua Heliodoro Salgado¹, is the Viewpoint of Monte Agudo. We pass by the iron gate, following the shade of pine trees of the pedestrian access that also links to Rua Ilha do Príncipe².

Climb accomplished and we finally sit on the white porch benches of the viewpoint. What a magnificent picture? Lisbon appears to reach beyond the horizon! There?s a city map hand painted in tiles right next us, that will most certainly bring even more curiosity to those who study the landscape.

For the many of you wishing cafeteria service, further down the road, you will find a lovely establishment with a small terrace, conveniently positioned to enjoy the best city view.

We?re sitting beyond the northern boundary of Colina de Santo André³, on the slope of the old Vale de Arroios⁴, currently known as Avenida Almirante Reis⁵, just below the Viewpoint of Senhora do Monte⁶ located to our left?

It?s somewhat challenging to identify specific points in the landscape due to the repeated urban roofs that stand at the same height and very close to each other, whilst the perspective is extremely long and comprehensive. The fact that this viewpoint stands at a rather low height, doesn?t help either?

The Rua de Angola⁶ stands out perfectly before us. We can see the Sede da Academia Militar⁷ trees and its games field turf behind us. Further behind this green area, is the Praça do Marquês de Pombal⁸ with all the high buildings erected around it.
