The House Museum Medeiros e Almeida (in portuguese, Casa Museu Medeiros e Almeida)was the residency of a remarkable business man and the greatest private Portuguese art collector, the deceased António de Medeiros e Almeida. One of the wealthiest men of Portugal and an unconditional art lover, Medeiros e Almeida acquired in the mansion that was built in the year . There, he lived for and expanded the private collection of art.
In , the Maecenas creates the foundation bearing his name with the purpose of donating the house he inhabited and the art collection to the Portuguese people. The Fundação Medeiros e Almeida. would be in charge of preserving, inventory and display to the public the new house museum. Here, are currently in exhibition nearly 2.000 art pieces that include terracotta, Chinese porcelain, the Royal Arms of D. Manuel I, a tea-service that once belonged to the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, tobacco boxes (from Portugal, France, Germany and Russia), sculptures, clocks, glasses, paintings, metals, jewelry, the Sound Stones in jade dated from the reign of Emperor Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty and numerous pieces of furniture from the 15th and 16th centuries.
In this museum space it is possible to acquire replicas of the pieces in exhibition.
