Review
The Folk Art Museum (in portuguese, Museu de Arte Popular) was founded by António Joaquim Tavares Ferro, a multifaceted man who excelled in areas like literature, journalism and politics.
With 19 years old, António Ferro became the official editor of the famous Revista Orpheu with only two publications (quarterly) had major names big of Portuguese literature like Fernando Pessoa and Almada Negreiros. Later, he would occupy the direction of relevant political bodies, namely, the Secretariat of National Propaganda and the National Secretariat of Information, Popular Culture and Tourism.
Inaugurated on the , the museum has five rooms representing the five regions of Portugal: Entre-Douro-e-Minho, Trás-os-Montes, Beiras, Estremadura, Alentejo e Algarve. United in one place, the five regions are a faithful picture of the culture, soul and identity of a nation and people almost millennial, Portugal of the Portuguese. The museum's collection has a huge thematic diversity, including, Farm Implements, Valentine Art, Pastoral Art, Ceramics, Photography, Goldsmithing and Painting.
One of the main features of the Folk Art Museum are the fabulous murals spread along the rooms that portrait daily habits of the Portuguese people in each region of the country. This museum space is also a site used for many temporary exhibitions that enriches the artistic-cultural world of Lisboa.
